Piallassa (red desert chronicles)

(Boring Machines - 2008 - BM008)

drunk upon thy holy mountain

In 1964 Italian director Michelangelo Antonioni set Red Desert, his ninth movie, in the industrial area of Ravenna, the Piallassa valley, full of huge cold factories and machines, crossed by a polluted river ending in an intertidal foreshore.
I was born in Ravenna in 1964.
This is a little journey on the original movie locations, 43 years later. While I was searching for the lost atmosphere, I realized that time, in Ravenna, seemed to have stood still.
This work is a tribute to Michelangelo Antonioni, to my hometown and to the Piallassa.

Drunk Upon Thy Holy Mountain

(Setola di Maiale - 2008 - SM1100)

drunk upon thy holy mountain

Is this platter coming out of a snail mail collaboration maybe? Or just plain out of a telepathic transmission? Does it matter? A cluster of minds approach another, devouring and inoculating, ejecting biographic splinters into autobiographic fuzz and buzz; all the charming allure of weed informed mycotic tic-tac-toeing, inserting missing pieces where there were already too many competing for survival or a simple spot in the sun. At a point you will surely feel lost and asking for directions: we thought about that too: and in the swarm of field recorded days and holy machines chunking years old three copies run cdr releases you'll find more than directions. To be blunt about it: one long track, basically concealing four or five others, impregnated with triumphant surf singalongs, victorious drone chases, cut-up and glued down cigarette pack robots dancing a snail paced belly dance, intertwined with psychotic skips and scats and what have you, a relentless celebration of laetitia hodie. Get it while it's cheap, fresh and fun!

a constant migration (between reality and fiction)

(Creative Sources Recordings  cs079-2006)

This is the second long length record made by the Italian artist Punck, alias Adriano Zanni. “A Constant Migration” is an evolving continuous trip into the experimental music between light drones and clanging atypical rhythms, whispering voices and barking dogs, field recordings and relieving melodies, and most of all between reality and fiction.
The whole record is done under the final supervision by Hue (Matteo Uggeri of Sparkle in Grey) that smoothed and mastered all the Punck’s accurate sound sculptures.

nowhere campfire tapes cd 2005

(Afe Records/ctrlaltcanc Records)

Artist: Punck
Title: Nowhere Campfire Tapes
Format: CD in jewel case with white tray
Tracks: 4
Playing time: 56:23
Release date: April 2005

"Nowhere Campfire Tapes" is Punck's full-lenght debut CD and is released as a Ctrl+Alt+Canc / Afe joint venture. The album was recorded during 2004-2005 and follows two highly appreciated self-released CD-R EPs, many compilation appearances and a long and untired serie of live activities. It was created manipulating many different kinds of acoustic sources with audio editors and softwares. Among such sources we find digital synthesis, contact microphones and field-recordings."Nowhere Campfire Tapes" features four slowly evolving tracks, with three of them lasting over the ten minutes mark. "Almost Anything" is pervaded with disturbing frequencies, distant metal noises and ticking rain; the latter being a recorring element on the album. "Adriatico Lisergico" (...or "Lysergic Adriatic" if you prefer...) starts with the treated recording of sea waves breaking against the shore, while abstract electronic soundscapes appear along the way. Approaching the end of the track, cutted-up voices are added just before sinking into sea waves again."Tsunami Notes" features the reciting voice of Paolo Ippoliti from Logoplasm along with sub-bass drones and high-pitched sounds. As the voice stops, the sound of a rainstorm fades in and out of the mix and a distant airplane fly over the last drops of pelting rain."Almost Nothing" closes the album merging most of the elements found in the previous tracks in a perfect fusion of found-sounds, field-recordings, drones and digital/electronic frequencies.

Dionisio Capuano

"MU" cd-r 2002

(self released)

5 tracks 20 min

(sublevel01-7min24sec-sublevel02-090578-sublevel03)

it took me more than twenty days to be able to write something about this disc, mostly because it blows me away, every single time i listen to it. i tried describing it, writing about my feelings, tried taxonomy, vivisection, hallucination. and still no way to write something that could even vaguely describe it. then in the morning i woke up, and listened to it again , over coffee. being now familiar with it, i let it run through my brain, from the piercing drone in the beginning, contrapuncted by slow and thick electricity pulses, passing through the simple soaring melody hidden in the short, threading envelopes of concrete snippets in the second track, to the chilling song where italian history, in the form of terrorists calling crying people to announce a killing, gets framed over what seems a processed unengaged phone line. still this works destroys me and leave me empty for words. i might write something like this disc deserving to be out on, say, 12k, but no, this is self-released, and a pride for everyone self-releasing, it would be senseless. so i'll stop writing, here and now. get this disc, do nothing else than getting this disc. then you'll understand.
